Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Awesome friendly coffee next to an bit of awesome history and nature. Look for flashes of blue from passing kingfishers and look at the island for the resident muntjac deer."
"Nestled next to the serene Crane River and surrounded by serene trees, Crane Park is a charming hidden gem. This park is where I usually run on Saturdays for the parkrun. Constructed in 1828 to produce copper lead pellets for firearms, the Shot tower is an intriguing building. Before hitting the water, the red-hot copper would fall from the top and take the shape of a ball."
"The (not a) shot tower (it was, in fact, a windmill) is situated in the very natural Crane Park, next to a delightful nature reserve. Area is cared for by the F.O.R.C.E. volunteers (Friends of the River Crane Environment). The tower is now also accompanied by a coffee stop - Thirst off All - an oasis!"
"A lovely park. Great for exercising, walking or bike riding. There are off path trails to explore and if you are lucky you might see the resident terrapin by the Shot Tower."
"Worth a visit to see the (modern) spiral staircase linking study, studio and gallery within the tower. An excellent repurposing of an industrial building for educational and heritage purposes"
"A lovely park for a walk, run or cycle. Also interesting to visit the Shot Tower. If you’re doing the Parkrun here the Shot Tower is the finish area, but the start is a 10min walk over to the other side of the river."
"A very interesting structure that was built in 1828 and used to create copper lead pellets for guns. The red hot copper would drop from the top and form the ball shape before landing in water. I thought that was interesting."
"The park itself is a lovely hidden gem through quiet and peaceful woodlands and beside the calming Crane river. It should be noted that we came by bike and at some of the entrances they have the restrictive gates"
